I’m so excited to share that two of my images have been awarded Highly Commended at the Australian Photographic Prize 2025!
This recognition is especially meaningful because the competition brings together so many talented photographers from across the country, and the feedback from the judges is an opportunity to keep growing in my craft.
🏆 Wedding Classic – Capturing Candid Joy
One of the awarded images was captured during a wedding, where I was lucky enough to notice a joyful, unscripted moment between the guests and musicians. The judges commended the way this image added to the colour of the day by focusing on a story often overlooked — the expressions of those who bring music and atmosphere to weddings.
Their feedback highlighted a few ways to refine my approach technically, such as adjusting lighting, cropping, and managing highlights. These are insights I’ll carry forward into future work, while continuing to seek out those genuine, fleeting expressions that mean so much.
🏆 Family – A Soft & Elegant Maternity Portrait
The second Highly Commended award was for a maternity portrait, captured with soft, natural light and a muted colour palette. The judges loved the warmth and beauty of the portrait, and also provided thoughtful feedback about composition and horizon placement — a reminder that small adjustments can make a big difference.
A Grateful Reflection
Awards like these aren’t just about recognition — they’re about growth, learning, and celebrating the people who invite me into their most important life moments. I’m truly grateful to my clients who trust me to document their stories, and to the Australian Photographic Prize for creating a space to learn and celebrate the art of photography.
