A Generational Family Photoshoot at Bells Rapids: Why These Moments Matter

Some photoshoots carry a little extra magic — and Barbara’s family session was one of them.
Between school schedules, adult children’s work commitments, appointments, and the general busyness of life, getting an entire family together isn’t always easy. But Barbara made it happen. And honestly? She absolutely nailed it.

If you’ve ever met her, you’ll know:
Nanna Barbara is a force to be reckoned with.
She is the organiser, the heartbeat, and the beautiful matriarch of her family. When she reached out to plan a generational photoshoot, she wanted one thing — time together, documented forever.

We met at Bells Rapids in Perth, Western Australia, one of the most breathtaking outdoor locations for family photography. With its natural rock formations, soft evening light, and sweeping landscapes, it created the perfect backdrop for this incredible family.

Why Generational Photoshoots Matter

These sessions carry a unique kind of value. They freeze moments that become more meaningful with every passing year. Seeing grandparents, children, and grandchildren together in one frame — laughing, holding each other, simply being together — is priceless.

Life moves quickly. Kids grow up, seasons change, and families evolve.
Hug your little ones close. Hold the people you love tight. Life is truly so, so short.
It’s an honour every time a family trusts me to witness their story and document it with intention.

What Barbara Really Wanted From Her Photoshoot

Before every session, I ask my clients a few questions to help me understand what matters most to them. When I asked Barbara:

“Do you have any questions for me?”

“Is there anything else I need to know?”

“Can you finish this sentence: What I would really LOVE out of this photoshoot…?”

Her answer stopped me in my tracks:

“I want to capture an everlasting picture of those I love most, as who knows what is round the corner.”

And that is exactly what we did.
